Lauren and I are trucking on through our Santa Maria Bucket List (t-minus 19 days 'til moving day, yikes!). Thank you to all of our favorite Santa Maria natives who have suggested items to put onto our list. We've got an updated list below and some pictures from our Oso Flaco excursions!
Okay, get ready for "brochure" voice...
OSO FLACO is a small, picturesque lake nestled behind the sandy beaches of the central coast. It is a 15 minutes drive past the strawberry fields of Guadalupe, and about a 20 minute walk out to the ocean from the entrance. You begin your journey down a path shaded by a canopy of trees (top row center) to a foot bridge that stretches over the expanse of the lake (middle row center, right; bottom row center). This bridge takes you front and center to some of the local wildlife of the lake which includes fish, birds (top left), and sometimes a turtle or two! The bridge leads to the other side of the lake and you continue the journey to the shoreline behind some of the natural sand dunes. Trust me, you'll want to take the hike at a leisurely pace so that you can enjoy the local plant life. An herbal fragrance lofts through the air as you walk along the wooden path littered with growing wildflowers! Although it was a bit windier than we expected, it was a beautiful sunny day with a couple of great gals- a perfect day to cross off a visit to Oso Flaco and Guadalupe Beach! Check.
