Many ice breaker games have asked variations of this same question: where is your dream city and why would you want to live there? Venice was almost always my answer. Why? Because why wouldn't I want to live in a beautiful and historic floating city bathed in the rosy mist of romance, filled with the drone of gondolas gently wading through water? Just saying. A year ago, I wouldn't have even allowed myself to dream about going to Venice. And then, there I was.
Did you know that the Bridge of Sighs received its name in the 1800s because prisoners would walk across it and sigh while taking in their last view of beautiful Venice before imprisonment? That sounds like one of the worst tortures they could've subjected any Venetian to. Even as I sit here and think about the beautiful city that I was in and am now no longer... sigh.
After those pictures from the Grand Canal, can you see why this bridge got its name?
Our hometown was named after the Rialto Bridge and so we went thug life in honor of it.
As an unofficial scholar of the Gospel of Mark, it was especially exciting to be at St. Mark's Basilica and Square!
