But I know that this joy thing is going to have to be a discipline of mine.
Gees, day 2 and I'm already ready to tap out...
But it's okay because here we are.
What gave me joy today...
Writing letters to my family. Handwritten letters are so much more work than emails or text messages, but they're classic. I think a post LAUP resolution of mine will be to write one person in my life a letter each week. What do you think, realistic? We'll see if I can do it- I think I can!
Chatting with Bobby (an 80 year old woman who lives down my street) about her green grass and humongous succulent garden. I've experienced such a richness of community with my daily neighborhood walks. I suggest you try it in your neighborhood for 2 weeks and see what kind of surprising folks you come across!
Singing songs with Dem, a 14 year old boy from my neighborhood who wants to sing in the arts production that I'm in at the end of the summer. No picture of him, but I had a great time drawing him out of his shyness to sing me some tunes! I really love releasing youth into expressing themselves through art.
My housemates and I are doing this thing called "hot seat" this week during dinner. Each night, one of us shares our life stories and then the group gets to ask any question(s) that they might have for the person in the hot seat. Tonight's story was full of sadness, but also full of hope. Mr. Roger's said that there's no person in this world that you couldn't learn to love after hearing their story. Oh, Mr. Rogers, so wise
Tomorrow is my night to share...
